GYC executive director to speak on issues affecting Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

Mike ClarkMike Clark, the executive director of Bozeman-based Greater Yellowstone Coalition, will address issues related to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem at this Thursday’s meeting of the Bozeman Evening Rotary Club.

“Mike will be talking about the issues and challenges facing the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem – some of the successes and some of the challenges,” said GYC communications director Jeff Welsch. “You’ve got wolves and bears and bison. He may also talk about the Gallatin National Forest and the Tester wilderness bill.”

Clark served as GYC’s executive director from 1994-2001 and rejoined the organization last June.

John Shellenberger, president of the Bozeman Evening Rotary Club, said the discussion promises insight into some of Yellowstone’s most debated issues.

“The wolf issue is a big controversy right now and the Tester bill on jobs and wilderness is also controversial,” Shellenberger said on Monday. “There are people on the left that say it gives up too much wilderness to logging and on the right that say it is not enough.”

The meeting will be held in conjunction with a dinner from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. on March 11, 2010 at Johnny Carino’ s Restaurant on North 19th Avenue in Bozeman. The discussion and dinner are open to the public. Cost for the dinner is $15.
