Steepfest 2010 climbing competition scheduled for this weekend in Billings

SteepWorld will host its spring rock climbing competition, SteepFest, this Friday and Saturday in Billings. The event is expected to draw more than 70 climbers from across Montana and Wyoming.

Registration for the adult climbing competition is 6 p.m. on Friday with climbing slated for 7-9 p.m. An awards ceremony will follow. Sign-up for the junior competition is at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Climbing will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with awards to follow. All participants will climb on more than 50 new rock climbing routes set by the SteepWorld staff.

On Saturday, SteepWorld’s SteepTeam students will showcase their talents. The general public is invited to drop in to watch and learn about the sport of rock climbing.

SteepFest will be held at the SteepWorld climbing center at 208 North 13th Street in Billings. SteepWorld opened in February 2005 and is owned and operated by Jim Rott.

Cost for the SteepFest competition is $25.
