Entrance fees waived at Yellowstone National Park for National Park Week
Yellowstone National Park opens to automobile traffic on April 16, 2010. For the first week of the spring season, From April 17-25, entrance fees to Yellowstone will be waived as part of National Park Week. A seven-day pass to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks normally costs $25 for private vehicles.
“National Park Week is an annual celebration designed to encourage people to visit one of the 392 units of the National Park Service in order to reconnect with nature and their heritage,” the Park Service said in a release.
Yellowstone will be open from the park’s north entrance at Gardiner to Cooke City. Beginnin April 16, the roads will be opened from the North and West entrances to Norris, Madison, Canyon and Old Faithful. Construction may cause delays and overnight closures on the road between Norris and Madison.
Visitor service are limited during the early spring season. According to the park service, the Visitor Center and the Snow Lodge Geyser Grill at Old Faithful open for the season on April 16, as do the Canyon Adventure Store and the West Yellowstone Visitor Information Center. Gasoline will be available inside the park using 24-hour pay at the pump at Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction, Canyon, and Old Faithful. The Yellowstone General Store, clinic, campground, and Albright Visitor Center in Mammoth Hot Springs are open all year.
Visitors should be prepared for variable spring weather. As always, park wildlife may be present on the roadways and should not be approached. Bears, which have recently emerged from winter hibernation, may be encountered.
