18th Annual Loon and Fish Festival set for Memorial Day weekend at Seeley Lake

Loon And Fish Festival LogoThe 18th Annual Loon and Fish Festival will be held Memorial Day weekend at Seeley Lake. Centered at Seeley Lake Elementary School, the two-day festival celebrates the loon and trout, two of Seeley Lake’s most popular wildlife species.

The Loon and Fish Festival is sponsored by the Alpine Artisans, a group of artist and arts supporters committed to promoting the arts within the context of the natural splendor of the Seeley-Swan valleys. The festival will include art sales, wildlife programs and children’s activities.

“We are excited about all the new additional programs to be offered this year:  wildlife films, demonstrations, speakers from forest and wildlife management organizations and the Glacier Park Centennial,” said Carla Schade of Alpine Artisans.

According to its website, “the mission of Alpine Artisans is to promote and preserve the arts in western Montana. We accomplish this goal through arts education, outreach, and information sharing, using our core values to provide guidance for decisions affecting the organization.”

Alpine Artisans is a non-profit organization with nearly 150 members in the Seeley-Swan and Blackfoot valleys of western Montana.

Beginning Saturday, the weekend’s activities will include a morning bird walk, a wildflower walk by Swan Ecosystem Center, an Artist’s Quick Draw, selected films from the International Wildlife Film Festival, speakers from Glacier Park’s 100th anniversary celebration, a variety of booths from local and statewide wilderness organizations, a raffle and more.

The Loon and Fish Festival is a community event that raises funds for the Seeley Lake Food Bank and local visual and performing arts while focusing on importance of wildlife. Artists Ruth and Bob Korn will donate pottery bowls decorated by local artists for purchase at a Soup Bowl Luncheon on Saturday given by area restaurants.

The 18th Annual Loon and Fish Festival will be held May 29 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and May 30 from noon-4 p.m.
