Gallatin Valley Land Trust seeking volunteers for trail work on June 5
The Gallatin Valley Land Trust – a member supported, nonprofit organization aimed at conserving Southwest Montana’s heritage of open landscapes, working farms and ranches, healthy rivers, and wildlife habitat – is looking for volunteers to lend their support on June 5, 2010.
Celebrating the “Main Street to the Mountains” trail system, GVLT will host its 18th annual Trails Day in observance of National Trails Day. Volunteers are needed to help complete trail work on several trails throughout the community.
Trail projects will begin at 9 a.m. Volunteers should meet at Bogert Park on South Church Avenue. Projects include improving muddy sections of the Triple Tree Trail and resurfacing and improving drainage on the trail west of Morningstar School.
A lunchtime Trails Day celebration picnic will be held at the Bogert Park Pavilion at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend with drinks and boxed lunches provided. GVLT representatives will be on hand to discuss the land trust’s latest trail projects.
Following the picnic, a walking tour of the proposed Sourdough Canyon/Bozeman Creek Trailhead Improvement Project will be held at 2 p.m. GVLT staff will lead a tour of the trailhead and access road, describing the extensive redesign and rebuilding plan to improve public safety and enjoyment and to protect Sourdough Creek.
