Gallatin National Forest announces new district ranger for Hebgen Lake
The Gallatin National Forest named Cavan Fitzsimmons its new district ranger for the Hebgen Lake Ranger District on Wednesday. Fitzsimmons replaces Lauren Turner who retired from the Hebgen Lake Ranger District – located in West Yellowstone – last month.
Fitzsimmons and his family will make the move to West Yellowstone from the Kawishiwi Ranger District on the Superior National Forest in Ely, Minn. Before working with the Superior National Forest, Fitzsimmons was the Forest Trails Coordinator for the Salmon-Challis National Forest located in Salmon, Idaho.
The Forest Service said in a press release that Fitzsimmons “brings a wealth of knowledge particularly in recreation management, but also has experience in timber, minerals, fire and fuels management.”
“The skills Cavan brings to this district ranger position will be a valuable asset to both the West Yellowstone community and the Gallatin National Forest,” said Mary Erickson, forest supervisor for the Custer and Gallatin forests. “Cavan will move to West Yellowstone at the beginning of August.”
Fitzsimmons said he was looking forward to the opportunity to work on the Gallatin National Forest.
“I am excited to return to one of the most unique areas in the National Forest Service System,” Fitzsimmons said. “I was born, raised and have always lived in small towns like West Yellowstone, and am looking forward to working with and volunteering in the community.”
