Artists to gather at Missouri Headwaters State Park for ‘Paint the Parks’ finale

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks logoMontana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the Art Center in Helena are co-sponsoring an interesting event Sept. 4, 2010 at Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. stop by the park to check out 8-12 Helena-area artist on hand for the “Paint the Parks” series.

The event offers the chance to observe the techniques of painters in the field practicing their trade. Artist will use the backdrop of the Missouri Headwaters as a basis for landscape paintings. This exhibition will demonstrate “plein air” techniques. Coined by the French, “plein air” painting means to work in the open air, essentially painting on location. As a result, the artists will paint quickly under changing light conditions and the elements.

The artists will be setting up near the Fort Rock parking area on the eastside of the highway heading to Trident. Possible subjects include the park’s varied flora and fauna, or an artistic rendition of one of the historic event that took place in the park.

Missouri Headwater State Park is located at the confluence of the Gallatin, Jefferson and Madison rivers just east of Three Forks. Lewis and Clark passed through the area on July 25, 1805.

This will be the final installment of the “Paint the Parks” series this season. The event is free and open to the public.
