Gallatin Valley Land Trust announces new executive director Penelope Pierce

Gallatin Valley Land TrustThe Gallatin Valley Land Trust announced the hiring of its new executive director on Monday. Penelope Pierce replaces former director Stephen Johnson who left GVLT in March to pursue other interests after five years at the helm.

Pierce was among 50 candidates from across the nation that applied for the job. She has more than 20 year experience in the conservation field and has work with other land trusts in the region. Pierce has lived in the Gallatin Valley for six years.

“We are thrilled to have Penelope’s experience, energy and leadership at the helm of this vital community organization,” said Micheline Bisaillon, GVLT’s board president.

GVLT’s has conserved thousands of acres of wildlife habitat and working agricultural land in recent years. The organization was recognaized nationally for its work on the Drinking Horse Mountain at the mouth of Bridger Canyon.

“Gallatin Valley Land Trust plays a critical role in conserving our landscapes and improving our quality of life,” Pierce said. “I am honored, humbled and excited to be GVLT’s executive director, especially as it celebrates 20 years of enriching and servicing the Gallatin Valley and surrounding areas.”

Pierce will be formally introduced at the Gallatin Valley Land Trust’s 20th anniversary celebration at the Baxter Hotel ballroom on Oct. 20. The event is open to the public.
